General information

Opened in November 2022, the Port of Sanur offers modern facilities for travelers wishing to travel to the nearby islands of Bali. Until then, Sanur beach, about 600 meters to the south, served as a port, where boats had to be boarded directly from the beach across the water, which was particularly challenging for older people with limited mobility. Thanks to modernization, getting into the boat is easy and dry-footed.

However, it depends on where you are going if you can get off the boat dry-footed. :)

Interesting fact: In August 2023, the port handled more than 8,000 passengers daily.

The port of Sanur is located at Matahari Terbit Beach at this GPS position. There is limited car parking and a reasonably spacious place to park scooters.

One scooter parking lot is right next to the Matahari Terbit Beach here, and the other is directly behind the future port on the right side here.

The port entrance building is shaped by the Hindu mythological creature Gajah Mina, an elephant head with a fishtail. The elephant's head and the fish's tail protrude from either side of the building, shaped like a traditional Jukung fishing boat.

You will be asked to present your boarding pass before entering the building. Without it, you will not be allowed into the building. Suppose you haven't purchased your ticket in advance from the comfort of your home (RECOMMENDED). In that case, you will be allowed into the lobby to the self-service terminals, where you can purchase last-minute tickets online at the official website easybook.com.

It is NOT possible to purchase tickets physically at the port.

In theory, you may get lucky and run into a shipping company representative at the entrance who can sell you tickets but don't rely on this and get your tickets before you go to the port.

💡 Tip: There are transport company offices at the Jl Hang Tuah port entrance road where you can physically buy your ticket and try to negotiate the price from the one you see on easybook.com.

Once you enter the port building with your ticket (or a tag around your neck), you walk to the left past the "check-in" counters, which are for selected companies only. You will leave your large luggage at this counter, if applicable, where it will be transferred to the ship.

If your company does not require check-in and baggage check-in, you continue to the left towards the escalator that will take you to the air-conditioned waiting area.

In the lobby, in addition to the restrooms, you'll find a children's play area and a room for moms to breastfeed and change their babies. You can also use the stairs to the second floor and wait for the ship in the open area overlooking the port (great for smokers).

Around (+-30 minutes) the time your boat's departure, a staff member will announce the company's name, and the boarding process will begin. After checking your boarding pass, you will be let through the gate towards the piers, and another staff member will show you the way directly to your boat.

You will hand over your luggage (and neck tag if applicable) at the boat and comfortably board the ship via the pier. Have a safe journey!

Where do the boats from Sanur port go?

  • Nusa Penida (more ports)

  • Nusa Lembongan (more ports)

  • Lombok (Bangsal)

  • Gili Air

  • Gili Trawangan

Please see the Nearby Islands Guide for specific prices for each connection and much more information.

Once you arrive back at Sanur port, you can arrange a transfer directly from the drivers moving around the port area. However, expect multiples of the regular prices. Supposedly, they have to pay a "fee" to the port for being able to pick up customers there.

To give you an idea, the going rate on the GoJek app for a Sanur - Ubud (Lodtunduh) car is IDR 100,000. The first offer at the port was IDR 450,000, and as the distance from the port increased, the price gradually decreased to IDR 150,000.

💡 Tip: If you want to save money, walk to this petrol station (about 500 meters walk) and order GoJek directly from the app. GoJek and Grab are prohibited from picking up customers from the port area.

The port of Sanur is a modern transport intersection for travel from Bali to the nearby islands and back, with modern facilities, an air-conditioned waiting area, and good organization. You can use it during your holiday without any complications and enjoy a smooth journey.
