Mount Agung Closed for Trekking Until End of November 2024

Starting from October 1 through November 30, 2024, Mount Agung (3031m), Bali's highest peak, will be closed for trekking. The closure is due to the sacred Karya Tabuh Gentuh Wana Kertih, Segara Kertih, and Nubung Pedagingan ceremonies taking place at Pura Pasar Agung in Sebudi Village, Selat District. This major religious ceremony is held only once every 10 years, and it’s essential to maintain the sanctity of the temple and its surroundings during this time.

I Wayan Suara Arsana, a representative of Pura Pasar Agung, stated that the closure was decided after a meeting with local religious leaders. It aims to ensure the smooth running of the ceremonies. Coordination has been made with trekking guides and travel agencies to inform tourists of the restrictions.

BaliGuide.me reached out to a local trekking guide who independently confirmed the closure and emphasized the importance of respecting the guidelines during this period.

Tourists are asked to comply with the temporary ban and avoid trekking Mount Agung until it reopens at the end of November.
