about
Medewi
Medewi is a small coastal village located in the western part of Bali, about a 2.5-hour drive from Denpasar. It is famous for its long black sand beach, popular, especially among surfers, for its steady left waves.
If you are not a surfer, you can still enjoy the picturesque coastline surrounded by rice fields and beautiful sunsets. You can also explore the nearby I Gusti Ngurah Rai Memorial, which is there to honor the Balinese national hero who fought against Dutch colonial rule in 1946.
You can also visit the sacred Banut Bolong banyan tree in Pekutatan village near Medewi. It is believed to be hundreds of years old and considered a spiritual site by the locals. Cars and scooters pass through its thick trunk, and it is a popular place to take photos, not only for social media.
Last but not least, you can visit the important Hindu temple of Rambut Siwi, located about 14 km west of Medewi. It is famous for its location on a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean and is one of Bali's most important sea temples. It is believed to have been founded by the revered Hindu priest Danghyang Nirartha during his 16th-century tour of Bali. The temple is dedicated to the God Vishnu and is an important place where local Balinese pray.
There are several restaurants, cafes, and small shops in the Medewi area, but overall it is a tranquil and peaceful destination.
Medewi is a great place to enjoy beautiful nature, take a surfing lesson, relax, and sunbathe.
