Candidasa
Candidasa is a coastal fishing village in the Karangasem area, about an hour and a half drive from Denpasar. It is a tranquil, peaceful, and relatively secluded area. This makes it a great place to take a break from the crowded tourist areas of the southern part of the island.
You can combine your stay with trips to higher altitudes to the waterfalls, the Taman Ujung Water Palace, built by the King of Karangasem in 1919, or the Tirta Gangga Water Palace. And if you have the physical strength, climb the 1,700 steps to the iconic Pura Lempuyang temple. You can also visit the nearby village of Tenganan, one of Bali's oldest and best-preserved villages, home to its original inhabitants known as the Bali Aga. The village of Tenganan also hosts the unique Mekare-kare ritual.
Unfortunately, the village's remoteness is reflected in the lower number of good restaurants and other amenities. So don't expect well-equipped supermarkets here. On the other hand, you will find a wide range of accommodations, from budget guesthouses to luxury resorts.
The beaches are small and quiet, with ubiquitous breakwaters surrounded by traditional Jukung fishing boats. You can rent one for about IDR 400,000 with a captain for two hours and take a snorkeling trip there.
