about
Odalan
Odalan is a Hindu ceremony on the anniversary of the temple's dedication every year according to the Balinese calendar Pawukon, i.e., every 210 days.
The ritual usually lasts 1 to 3 days. Ceremonies on the round anniversaries of temples of 5, 10, 30, and 100 years may last more than ten days. The temples are decorated on this occasion with golden cloths, ornaments, parasols, penjors, and various flags.
Offerings are brought to the temples for the gods on women's heads. The offerings consist of fruits, eggs, rice, and flowers. In the evening, local dances are performed in the temples to the sound of typical Gamelan music. Considering the number of temples in Bali, Odalan takes place almost daily on the island.
Other names: Piodalan, Puja Wali, Pujawali
